FAQs
When should I schedule physical therapy postpartum?
I recommend scheduling your postpartum visit(s) before baby is born, to ensure you are able to start care at 4-6 weeks postpartum. You will typically follow up with your medical provider around 6 weeks postpartum, in which you may receive medical clearance. Often times issues arise orthopedically prior to this 6 week appointment, in which under direct access, you can seek physical therapy care. We communicate with your provider after your evaluation regarding our findings, and are competent in recommending either continuing care or following up with your physician before care continues.
Should I see a physical therapist while pregnant?
Yes, yes, YES! There are many things we can address during your pregnancy. Pregnancy is a time in which many things shift and change, resulting in pain, limited mobility/function, pelvic floor symptoms, and more. We can address each of these issues, optimize your movement, instruct you in safe pushing techniques, maintain mobility and SO MUCH more. Birth prep / push prep is so important and will help you so much when the big day comes. It is highly encouraged one utilizes a physical therapist both during and after pregnancy! Who wouldn’t want a fast and efficient delivery?!
Do you perform internal pelvic floor work?
Yes, in cases where it is warranted and with your permission. An internal assessment is an excellent way to gather objective information regarding the function and state of the pelvic floor. We are able to assess muscle strength, endurance, resting and active muscle tone, your ability to control your muscles, assess for possibly descent of one or more of the vaginal walls (prolapse) and what may be causing your symptoms. All without a speculum. There are many patients who are uncomfortable with internal assessments, and that is ok! If you choose to decline, we will work with you to achieve your goals in other ways to the best of our ability, together.
Do you participate with my insurance?
PhysioCore LLC is an out of network physical therapy practice. We do not submit to your insurance on your behalf. You will be provided with a superbill/invoice that you can access easily after each session through your patient portal. You may submit your bill to your insurance provider for out of network reimbursement, if your plan provides such benefits. You may also use an HSA or FSA account to pay for services.
Do I need a prescription for physical therapy?
In the state of Virginia, you can be seen by a physical therapist for not more than 60 consecutive days without a prescription. However, a prescription is required for Dry Needling and in some pelvic health services, as determined by the therapist.
Can I submit your services to my insurance carrier?
You can still submit your therapy visits to your insurance, depending on your out of network benefits. You will be provided with a superbill or invoice that you can submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Superbills will be created after each session. You can log into your account through PTEverywhere at any time to access your superbill(s).
Do you travel to my location?
PhysioCore pelvic health travels around the Northern Virginia region and Washington D.C regions. Pricing varies depending on your location as shown below. Lactation and Infant Feeding services offered throughout the DMV.
What happens after I am discharged from physical therapy?
It is highly recommended that you continue with your prescribed exercises as discussed with your therapist. Alternatively, many patients have chosen to continue strength training with the help of a strength coach. We work closely with the coaches of JB Strength and Nutrition as well as those at SAPT, and would be more than happy to coordinate a plan for continued care after discharge.
What other services do you offer and how do I schedule them?
We strive to offer you the best services in the area, with only the highest trained individuals. We offer pelvic floor physical therapy, lactation support (virtual or in person), personalized exercise prescription, new mom support groups, breastfeeding support groups, and fourth trimester self paced learning.
All of these services are only a simple email away - kristen@physiocorellc.com will help take the stress out of scheduling and take excellent care of you.
